Lady Pirates win GTE crown

Bri Woycehoski competes in the high jump.
The Lady Pirates celebrate.
The team receives their trophy.
The new GTE champs!
For the first time since 1999, the Harbor Beach girls are the GTE league champs in track. The Lady Pirates dominated the competition as they earned over 200 points at Brown City earlier tonight.
The victory puts an end to Ubly's streak of five straight league titles.
Coach Steve Linn commented that this was a total team effort, as despite a few hiccups (one girl false started, one fell during her race and crawled to the finish, while a third fell during the 300 hurdles), the stepped up to the challenge in a big way. Linn explained that he was somewhat suprised by how some people stepped up and got points where he didn't expect to.
This win puts a target on Harbor Beach as they head into Friday's regional at USA, but I think it gives them even more confidence.
I'll make this early prediction, this team is for real and they will qualify for the state meet as a team, likely winning the regional and will contend for a state title this year.
Congrats to the Pirates! Hopefully this is just the first of many championships to come this year and in the future.
Please feel free to share your best wishes for the Pirates.
