Ubly's next opponent...Dryden

After the first week of playoff action, only one local team remains in the post-season, the Ubly Bearcats. Here is a look at their week two opponent:
Dryden (10-0) @ Ubly (10-0)
· The Cardinals are 10-0 this season, won the NCTL league championship and have won 11 straight games at this point (they finished the 2007 season with a 33-23 win over Burr Oak, but finished at 5-4 and didn’t make the playoffs).
· So far, Dryden has outscored opponents 446-98 this season or by an average score of 45-10. The 446 points scored surpasses the team’s previous high of 363 in 1996, which was the last time the Cardinals made the playoffs and the last time they had a 10 win season.
· After a 5-4 finish in 2007 and a 10-0 season thus far in 2008, Dryden has their first back-to-back winning seasons since they had four winning campaigns from 1976-1979.
· The Cardinals are 1-2 historically against teams from the Greater Thumb East, with all those games being against Mayville. After losing their first two to the Wildcats, Dryden knocked off Mayville 35-6 in their season opener this season. The Wildcats also lost to Ubly this season, being shutout 57-0.
· The Cardinals advanced to the district final against Ubly with a 50-12 victory over Memphis. Earlier in the season, Dryden slipped by the Yellow Jackets 22-19. In the playoff win over Memphis, the Cardinals rushed for 339 yards on 39 carries, while holding the Yellow Jackets to 77 yards on 30 totes.
· Leading the way for Dryden was Chad Butler, who rushed for 152 yards and two scores on 15 carries (10 yards per carry). Eric Tietz ran for 141 yards on 13 carries and two TDs, while adding a defensive score on a 90 yard interception return. QB Cody Paulpert added a 28 yard TD strike to Matt Lynch.

I say Ubly has more want for this victory and will pull it off in a nice fashion.. perhaps not QUITE as well as this past Friday... but regardless, will get the "w".
