Let's get this party started

I see there are lots of people on the blog "window shopping" (even as I type this), but no comments!!!!
So let's throw our predictions out there for Ubly, Lakers and Deckerville, too. Are these teams winning this week, are they losing, what do you expect to see, what are the keys to a win, etc.
And Ubly Alumni I know you are out there, so let's chime in. What do you think of what your school has done so far this year and what they have the potential to do throughout the post-season.
Let your voices be heard!!!

I think Ubly is going to lose in the first round. They haven't played anyone this year and their pass defense isn't that good.
If you give up 13 to Bad Axe, how can you stop this Genesee team with that awesome QB.
As for Lakers, they are getting smoked to. Here's your present for beating Sandusky, a whooping by Saginaw Nouvel.

Ubly will no problem scoring points against a Genesee team who gives up 30 points a game. Genesee does average 39 points a game, but the Genesee Area Conference ( GAC ) is not the Greater Thumb East. Ubly 58 Genesee 8.

Lakers is having a dream season. After a horrible start, the Lakers have got the pride back in the EPBP. But all good things must come to an end as the 2008 Lakers football team will lose to the 2008 Division 6 State Champion Nouvel. Nouvel 38 Lakers 8.

Deckerville enters the playoffs on a mission. I expect the Eagles to make it to the Semi-Finals and hopefully further. Despite getting beat by Ubly, i came away convinced they are the second best team in the Thumb. No question about it. Coach Brown has built a powerhouse and it would great to see the Eagles win it all.
Deckerville 48 Cardinal Mooney 0

OK here we go!

Genesee @ Ubly
Don't know a ton about Genesee, but seen enough of Ubly as they should score easily & also be able to take alot of time off the clock.
I think Ubly's long drives on offense & not allowing Genesee's receivers to get off the O line
(being physical with them) will hurt the timing on Genesee's passing attack. Ubly will have this well under control by the end of the 3rd quarter.
Ubly 46, Genesee 18

EPBP @ Nouvel
Love to see Lakers upset Nouvel, but it's not going to happen.
But that's why they play the games.
GO GREEN! PS. Haven't seen either play, no deep insite on this one
EPBP 14, Nouvel 38

Marine City CM @ Deckerville
Deckerville's offense impressed me when I've seen them, controlled the ball, quick and deceiving, & decent passing when they had to.
Add to that the Eagles are at home & play in a tough conference. Not as impressed with their "D", but more than enough to beat Marine City.
Deckerville 36, MCCM 20

Note to Ubly! I believe you have a special team this year and hope you savor every single minute of every game as I got to last year watching HB & especially #10.

Good luck to all the thumb teams!

Coaches Take,
I agree on all three counts. Sure Genesee has a ton of passing yards from their QB, he does have 16 interceptions, which shows he is either 1) makes bad decisions at times; 2) is getting pressured by the defense and is just trying too hard to make somehting happen or 3) throwing too much.
After a couple of picks, I think they will have to try and establisgh a ground game, but they don't have another quality back outside of Cook.
Ditto on Lakers. Great story, bad timing as far as running into Nouvel right away.
Deckerville is goign to make a run. Can they get through MCC? If you believe everything that has been said about MCC, the answer is no.
However, there is something about hard hitting, Thumb football and long extended drives that give out of the area teams fits.
D-ville has a chance, albeit slight to pull the upset and make the finals.

2 cents worth,
My mental Harbor Beach roster from 2007 is failing me. Who was #10?

Tom Sorenson!
(Unfortunately he got his foot speed from the old man!)

Tom sure looked fast when he was running in that playoff game against Ubly last year.

EPBP wouldn't have it any other way. If your going to play in a playoff game it might as well be against the best.

Don't see Deckerville going very far in playoffs (sorry Eddy)but hopefully they win a few.

Ubly's going to Ford Field and if they don't make it they are still the best team to represent THUMB Football..

Good Luck to all the area teams and remember in playoffs it only takes one bad game.........

Anonymous,
If Lakers did win it would be a collosal upset, BUT if they pulled off it off, who knows how far they could go. The sky is the limit.
As for Ubly, they are one of the best high school football teams I have ever seen. However, their legacy all revolves around what they do in the playoffs and I think anything other than a finals appearcnce would be a let down for the players and fans.
If they don't look ahead and face the task at hand (like they have all season), this could be a fun ride.

Twocentsworth,
What is Tom up to these days if you know?

Ubly will make it to the regional, no problem. However Shrine should also be there. A rematch of 2006 when the Bearcats scored late and went for 2 to win 22-21. This years cats are a much better team, but Shrine is also a much better team. Winner of this one is an odds on favorite to make Ford Field.

OK, so I what to know, does Ubly still dictate on when the game is played? Friday night (advantage Ubly) or Saturday afternoon (advantage Shrine)???

BTW: Someone who said they were Tim Sorenson was on a few forums post this fall. Got to admit, I liked what he posted. Sounds like a likable young chap. Just wondering if he's any relation to Brandon Sorenson, Ubly's starting defensive back?

Na, can't be. Brandon can peddle pretty fast!

Czlek,
If the teams can't agree, it is automotically played at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Chris, spoke with Tom earlier tonight, he's at SVSU gearing towards teaching and giving some serious thought about "get ready for this" sports journalism. Told him weeks ago to give you a call and chat about it. By the way am I going to need a slide rule to figure out this tiebreaker?

Chiuk Czlek
I'm Pat Sorenson, Tom's father,
and yes Tom has done some posting. Tim, my brother has not posted to my knowledge, but Jerry, another brother, does have a son Brandon who plays for Ubly.
In the first game between Ubly & HB last year Brandon intercepted one of Tom's passes, Brandon said in was a great play, Tom said he felt sorry for Brandon. On a side note my poor mother couldn't sit on either side when they played because she didn't want to choose one over the other. What was funny thou, she said last year was Tom's year and this year is Brandon's year. Bigger problem coming up, she's got two grandson's that are sophmores at both schools! Good luck again to all the Thumb Teams
Great, Great time of the year!

2 cents,
My e-mail address is ogryski@avci.net and pass that on to Tom and I'd love to talk to him about the field. Tell him he can e-mail me and I'll give him my cell phone number and he can call anytime he wants to chat about it.

Ubly (as many points as they decide to score) 50 or so - Genesee 14

Nouvel (as many points as they decide to score) 50 or so - Lakers 13.
