Ubly answers the critics

Despite heading into tongiht's match-up with Deckerville with a 6-0 record, many critics (like uhumm Eddie Fury), fans, etc. questioned how good they were.
How good is this team's defense?
Is this just the Jordan Kaufman show?
They have never been tested, how will they do in a full game?
These are the kinds of questions people have posed, they answered them with their performance in a 36-6 win over the Eagles.
Ubly led 21-0 at the half and if they had one more time out or just a few more seconds, could have led by four scores. Deckerville responded with a score to start the half and cut Ubly's lead to 21-6 and then recovered a Bearcat fumble with 4:34 in the second to really gain some momentum. The Eagles began to move the ball, but went to the air because coach Bill Brown knew he needed to score quickly. But that backfired as Mitch Cleary made, what coach Bill Sweneey called the play of his career, when he picked off a pass in the endzone.
The Bearcats put it away with two more scores.
Jordan Kaufman rushed for 132 yards and two scores, while Justin cleary ran for 114 and Alex Peruski 83 yards and two scores.
394 rushing yard for Ubly, with 407 total yards of offense, compared to 152 yards of total offense.
All I can say is, what a performance in the face of what this team has been dealing with in terms of David Osentoski's passing.
I'll have audio up soon and pictures later tonight.

Chris, remember...I said all along that Ubly is a good team, now I am saying they are the best team in the GTC. When you turn the ball over 3 times against either of these teams, your going to pay for it. Bearcats made the Eagles pay as if Tony Soprano came in for his weekly dues. Big congratulations to Ubly! The Bearcats were stronger and faster tonight and wore down that Deckerville defense. I am still worried about their passing game though, something they will need when you get deep in the playoffs. And on another note, the Ubly Athletic Department, and the community should pat themselves on the back on being great hosts to the Deckerville crowd. I like the the bleachers in the endzone areas. It adds to another perspective to the game. But Chris, I told you that I would eat an actual crow, and a bet is a bet. I just have to catch one.

thanks for stopping by Eddie....always good to have you along and your always welcome. To bad your Eagles lost but all is not lost as they are playoff bound and can make some noise in D-8 before its all said and done.

I don't want to say choked, but Cass City had this season and an outright GTW title well in-hand and have given it away the last two weeks.
The best they can hope for now is a four way schmoz or a quad-championship.
However, the way they are struggling couple wioth my ealrier thoughts, I reiterate...Lakers are winning an outright title next week.

Other quick thoughts...suporised about Harbor Beach...
Stunned how easily Dryden handled North Huron. another injury for the Warriors as Steve Jias rpeorted to me that John Iseler was stretchered off the field and couldn't bend (it's just what he told me).
I've got to say with the injuries and this huge loss, coupled with Peck's competitive loss to Memphis, I don't see NH winning next week and that loss eliminates them from the post-season.

Looks like I will get 2 out of three conference champions right this year....in the pre season I picked Ubly, Lakers and North Huron. Ubly claims a share tonight...Lakers claimed a share as well and can win the whole thing next week at CC.

I'm callin it now, if Lakers win the title outright, Cass City doesn't make the playoffs. They will lose week 9 to Almont. A 5-0 start and finish 5-4.

TV 5 reports 12-7 Sandusky

Whoops! Sorry about that!
Harbor Beach beat Mayville, 14-7.

Rick, I also had two out of three champions right. I had Ubly and Dryden. I picked Reese in the GTW, but I did have the Lakers at 6-3 overall.

I also agree with what another poster said. It's do or die for Cass City next week. The Red Hawks have a 5-2 Almont team in Week 9.

Cass City always starts stong and seems to struggle at the end of the season. They won't be limpiong into the playoffs this year, they're not going to make it.
A huge dissappointment.
I don't know of nay major injuries, they appeared talented enough in the first five games. Maybe it is between the ears.

Also Merril loses 51-27 to St. Charles. So for those who thought Merrill would be the team to knock off Ubly whenever they met, think again. The Vandals seem beatable and in also...Ubly prved tonight they are the real deal.

Merrill falls to 4-3, but should make the playoffs, with Valley Lutheran (2-5) and Vestaburg (3-4) left.

your right Chris, Merrill doesn't scare me much considering what we saw tonight. Throw in the fact that the game would be in Ubly pretty much says it all. They are not the same Merrill machine of last year that we saw in HB.

Good man Paul...I had North Huron in the NCTL.

Paul you were dead on right on Dryden in week 1. I recall saying it would come down to Reese, Cass City & maybe the Lakers in the GTW. Of course I was dead wrong on my Eagles. Chris, good job on getting comments from Coach Brown. And by the way it was quite eye opening watching what the Huron County Sports Reporters do...you guys do a heck of job. Of course my man Rick, you are the best play by play man in the Thumb! Hey what is this?!!? A Thumb Tailgater show?!?

By the way, anonymous was me. I forgot to type my darn name in.

some of the huron county sports reporters work their tails off. others take vacations and have only covered a few games this year. chris, steve and paul do a great job for their papers. the public know who works hard and who just skates by.

Paul,
Like you I had Dryden, Ubly & Reese. With a Laker loss to Cass City next week and a Rocket win over BCAS (more possible than I thought before after the Sandusky loss) and they could be quad champions.
I'll take 3-for-3 however I can take it, I'm sure you will, too.

Ubly answered the critics and so has the GTE. Ubly(7-0) and Deckerville(6-1) are in the play-offs. Marlette (5-2) needs a win over Mayville (likely) or Peck to get in. Moreover, Sandusky put the East up in the crossover contest 7 wins to 2.

Over in the West, things are not looking rosy.

Cass City (5-2) needs one win and with EPBP and Almont(5-2) still to play, may just as easily loss both to finish 5-4.

Lakers (4-3) can win the GTW title outright next week, but still must get past a decent Sandusky to finish 6-3

Vassar (4-3) has Class B, Durand (4-3) ahead in Week 9

Reese (4-3) and BCAS (4-3) play in an elimination bout next week and then the winner must prove themselves capable of defeating respectively, Mt Morris (5-2) or Carrollton (7-0)to make the cut.

What could happen here is that no one in the division will have better then a 5-4 record.

Barring a 5-4 fill in, could the GTW get completely shut out from the state play-offs this year?

This is the weakest I have ever witnessed the GTW. I said it before and I'll say it again, some of it is the injury bug, but the talent is also down. I was blasted two weeks ago on another website for saying that Cass City was the reaping the rewards of that injury bug and now two losses later, it appears I was right.
